Pigs Get Slaughtered and Sheep Get Sheared
17 July 2010 | by bobliptonSee all my reviews

Someone on the staff must have lost a lot of money in the stock market in 1929 and wanted to take some sort of revenge on Wall Street, because there are a lot of jokes of that sort in this Mintz cartoon for release by Columbia; having cheated Disney out of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and being cheated in his turn by Universal -- being no relation to Carl Laemmle -- Mintz was starting over again.

The result is a Krazy Kat cartoon that is all right by the series standards. It bear about zero relationship to Herriman' cartoon strip, but it was something to hang a series on. And if the gags are not that great -- most everything coming to life -- then at least it was a decent cartoon by the standard of 1930.
