Trivia

When Puddy and Kiko watch the fanciful Television's presentation of the Coronation, it's labeled "NBC". In real life, only the BBC televised the coronation of George VI, which occurred the same week as this cartoon was released. See more »

Just Rewatched THE KING'S SPEECH
14 February 2015 | by bobliptonSee all my reviews

Kiko the Kangaroo and Puddy the Pup are watch the King's coronation on NBC television. When Puddy barks too loudly, Kiko sends him to sleep, where he dreams of his own coronation...and Kiko's nightmare.

Terrytoon co-directors Mannie Davis and George Gordon try a contemporary cartoon here. George VI was crowned King of England and so forth the week this was released, so they obvious planned it that way -- Paul Terry's staff, not the British Empire. Besides the issue of NBC being a television broadcaster (easily explained given that Terry's studio was in Westchester), great care was taken with the background art, which is not in the least cartoonish.
