Trivia

According to pre-release developer interviews, the game's protagonist Kyle Katarn was named after the Katarn Commandos, a team of renowned soldiers featured in several Star Wars-based books and comics and although his bio says he was a member of that team prior to the game's events, he has nothing to do with its name. The original idea was that the team was named after a widespread creature of the Star Wars world, named "Katarn", which is also featured on the team's insignia. See more »

Goofs

When the map is turned on, in some cases you can see a door sliding far enough into its alcove that it would poke out the other side of the wall next to the door, though it cannot be seen in the environment. See more »

Quotes

Rom Mohc: [Pointing a pistol at General Crix Madine] This contemptible excuse for an officer will no longer divulge any more information to that Rebel, Kyle Katarn.
Darth Vader: Katarn will not be as easy to deal with. He is very resourceful. More resourceful, it seems, than even your Dark Troopers.
Rom Mohc: I understand the threat, Lord Vader. Katarn was once an impressive Imperial officer. But he was weak, and gave up on the struggle for our New Order. I wouldn't put much faith in his abilities. Katarn will never come near ...

Alternate Versions

The German version has many references to violence removed in dialog:
  • In the intro and the briefing for the first mission, Kyle's blaster pistol is referred to as a stunning pistol. Because of that detail, Mon Mothma has been given extra lines of dialog before the first mission, mentioning that the guards needed to be stunned to avoid casualties.
  • In the briefing for the second mission, Jan says "I'm relieved" instead of "I'm impressed" and "Good luck, Kyle" instead of "Good hunting, Kyle".
  • Before the sixth mission, Jan urges Kyle to stay alive. In the censored version, she says that he should avoid being detected.

User Reviews

Good, but...
3 July 1999 | by FoethSee all my reviews

This Shoot 'm up has good level design and interesting locations, perhaps giving one of the best atmospheres of the early shooters, though the fact you cannot save ingame will frustrate the player quickly and will make him stop playing. Still, a good game, which introduced jumping to the First person Shooter.
