The singer, 31, enjoyed watching the popular play by Jeremy O. Harris but received criticism from those in the audience who witnessed her texting.

Steven Universe: The Movie Review

The Steven Universe movie ties together all the characters emotional journeys and helps explore the franchise's most powerful message yet.

This Steven Universe review contains spoilers.

It’s perhaps best to start with what Steven Universe: The Movie isn’t, since that’s what many will be focusing on.

The end of Steven Universe season 5 was largely well received but certain aspects left some fans cold. The biggest sticking point was how the Diamonds were treated. The series painted them as fascist conquerors of the universe yet Steven just talked about love and now everyone is cool with them??? It all felt pretty rushed and there was some hope this movie would address that and give the Diamonds the consequences they deserved.

Steven Universe: The Movie only lightly touches on this and mostly focuses, as the series did, on the main characters emotional journeys. Some lip service

Soundtracking: Girlhood

by Chris Feil

“Shine bright like a diamond...”

I could (and have) go on ad nauseum about the cinematic relationship between music and the emotions of teenagers, how movies can embody and amplify the way music helps mold our sense of self in youth. But of all the recent films as keyed into this, none of them shatters the fourth wall for empathic purposes as Céline Sciamma’s coming-of-age tale Girlhood. Here she uses the already momentous track “Diamonds” by Rihanna to its own iconic end, embodying female togetherness and the spirit of youth that once made us all feel infinite.

It’s one of the most singular and ecstatic movie moments of the past decade, certainly an essential scene as people begin to reflect on the movie decade...

Here's Why Fans Think Rihanna Is Absolutely Headed for an Engagement

Here's Why Fans Think Rihanna Is Absolutely Headed for an Engagement
It may just be a "like," but we're convinced Rihanna must have love on the brain. Earlier this month, our very own Morgan Stewart decided to share her thoughts on the Grammy winner's super private romance with Hassan Jameel. "Do I think Rihanna is worthy of somebody who has a billion dollars? Yes I do," Morgan shared in an episode of E! News' YouTube series Necessary Realness. "I think 'Is he worthy of her?' is the question. It's what's on everyone's mind." Okay, okay. So she likes the woman behind huge hits like "Umbrella," "Diamonds" and "Work." But wait, there's more. Steven Universe Season 5 Episode 28 Review: Escapism

Steven Universe opts for a high concept standalone adventure that feels like a throwback to the old days, even if it's misplaced.

This Steven Universe review contains spoilers.

Steven Universe Season 5 Episode 28

Well that was…. weird. We should be used to Steven Universe not giving us what we want but dang it, this was really unexpected. Who thought we’d return to Mask Island and the Watermelon Steven’s at the near climax of the series?

On the one hand it’s a nice breather after the last few episodes really laid out what home world is like. While not every episode has been intense they’ve all been filled with either big plot moves, exploration into Gem culture, or doing big check-ins all the characters. Here we get an episode that seems largely inconsequential outside of Steven contacting home for help.

Some may call this filler but that doesn

Steven Universe Season 5 Episode 27 Review: Together Alone

Steven Universe finally shows the Diamonds aren't quite so redeemable in an installment that may set up the series' final arc.

Can Steven work within the Diamond’s system to change Gem culture? At first it seemed like it was possible. He was able to stop Blue and Yellow from destroying Earth, so there was a chance. He could just talk to them! If they thought he was Pink Diamond, he could get them to listen! Thankfully, it’s not that simple and Steven Universe is all the better for it.

For a while now I’ve been worried about the series’ treatment of the Diamond characters. It seemed as if they were being softened, horrific fascists made to seem cute. While I appreciate the series’ commitment to love being the answer, how do you love people who have conquered whole worlds and kept love out of so many people’s hands?

When the final ticket stubs are counted it is expected that British cinemagoers will have attended 176m times this year, a number not seen since 1971 when the hits included Diamonds are Forever, French Connection, Dirty Harry and Fiddler on the Roof.
