Storyline

Darryl Hughley, who owns his own vending machine business, moving out of from South Central to West Hills, a predominately white neighborhood within the San Fernando Valley. Darryl and his family try to adjust to living in an all-white area, at the same time trying to not forget who they are and where they came from. Darryl and Yvonne befriend their new neighbors Sally and Dave who are literally the polar opposite of Darryl. The story has many racial themes to it but are usually comedic as Darryl makes fun of other races, especially his white and Korean neighbors.

Quotes

Darryl: Sydney, If you really want to dis someone, you have to stick with the 'yo mamma jokes', here, I'll tell you one, "Yo mamma's so big, that when she was hit by a school bus, she turned around and said, 'stop throwing them rocks!'"
Michael: How 'bout this one? 'Your mamma's teeth are so yellow, that when she smiled, all the cars in the road stoped!'
Darryl: [Darryl laughing] That's really funny son, now GO TO YOUR ROOM, I don't want you to be talking about my mamma like that!

Awesome!
27 June 2005 | by wingfoot2388See all my reviews

I think it's a great show! Really funny, I just keep laughing. I don't know why it's not very popular; I like the jokes...The only people in the show who aren't funny are the friends of the Hughleys (Dave & Sara, I think their names are. Those people are so uninteresting that I don't even know their names!). Milsap is pretty good, but Darryl is the funniest. I think it's a nice change from the usual 'American Family' sitcom (I guess because it's probably the only sitcom other than "My Wife & Kids" and "Bernie Mac" that is about an African-American family). I think it's hilarious, and enjoy seeing the reruns (I never even heard of the show while it was actually running).
