Trivia

With the exception of Frank Sinatra who was given a 'Special' Memorial Tribute, this was the first year that all of the actual actors featured in this year's In Memoriam tribute had never once been nominated, nor won an Oscar for an acting category. The one actress that died within the time period before this year's showing, Peggy Cass, was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Auntie Mame (1958), however she not featured in the tributes. Quotes

Michael Kahn - Winner: Best Film Editing: Wow, thank you very much. I feel so proud to have played a role in the making of this historical motion picture. I'm so grateful to you, Steven, for giving me the opportunity to excel and grow as a person on this humbling World War II movie. Thank you. I'm also grateful to my family. Chickie, my wife, and Julie, Ken, and Adam and Allison Zunder, for their love and support during this war effort. And special good wishes to my brother and sister, Lee* and Mickey, on the east coast. I'm very ...

the one big mistake committed by the Academy this year was giving Best Picture to "Shakespeare in Love". "Saving Private Ryan" was by far the more deserving film. I'm happy that Spielberg won the Oscar for Best Director for this film. I was also happy seeing Roberto Benigni win for Best Actor since I'm italian. I think there were some really good movies nominated this year, certainly better than in 2001 and this year, 2002. But I still believe "Shakespeare in Love" is a most overrated movie.
