Storyline

Lord Asano rejects a bribe solicitation from Lord Kita and in so doing strikes Kita, a serious breach of feudal law. Asano is by law forced to commit ritual suicide, or seppuku. His forty-seven loyal samurai under his chamberlain Oishi are left masterless, pondering what, if anything, can be done to restore honor to their beloved Lord Asano.
