Some might regard a sex scene and a car chase as essentials for absolutely any motion picture, but not the talented Kieran Darcy-Smith, director and star of this enchanting gem, who successfully saw off producer Brooke Wilson's attempts to introduce such commercial trivialities into what some might see as an old-fashioned masterpiece. But for Darcy-Smith's insistence of artistic credibility over Wilson's well-known instinct for carnality and automotive pursuit, The Island may well have achieved financial success.
