You must be familiar with Confucian teachings in order to like this movie
The literal translation of the title of this movie is: Transparent Creek.
In order to really appreciate this masterpiece by Chinese standard, one must be very familiar with the rigid Confucian teachings which condemns divorce and re-marriage. Under such circumstance, it was really difficult for step-parents and step-children to adjust to each other, so what was taken for granted in western society became a novelty in Chinese society, and this movie accurate depicted this and the eventual success and thus deserves applaud.
