Bud Lee and his Sin City boss Michael Raven take it easy with "Counterfeit", an Asia Carrera vehicle that fails to hold one's interest. The dour tale of double-cross and comeuppance is boring outside of the requisite hot sex scenes.
Nearly all is told via Asia's voiceover, portraying a webcam girl and ex-stripper who falls in love with Nikko Night (unimpressive as the male lead) only to become involved in a money laundering scheme for druglord Steven St. Croix.
None of the characters in one-shot scripter "Truman Pfister"'s screenplay are developed and the suspense is further undercut by Lee's frequent use of quick flashforwards showing our lead couple tied together in bondage. It turns out that the entire story uses the tired device familiar from the classic "Sunset Boulevard" of a dead character recalling all the action in flashback.
Sexy supporting cast is highlighted by Sunrise Adams, giving a very sensual blowjob in extreme closeup, and Sondra Hall with her big bust a pleasant diversion. Camerawork by Raven and Lee is fine, but in support of a lost cause.
