A street hustler Fidel (Michael de Mesa) falls in love with a bar girl named Lani (Gina Alajar). They got married but separated when the guy gets meted a death sentence after gunning down a rich customer of the bar in a fit of jealousy. The bar girl bears the hustler's child named Maripi (Katrin Gonzales). The child becomes blind at a tender age because she fails to get timely medical care when she contracts an illness. The kid sleeps on church pews at times. The bar girl plies the flesh trade to make ends meet. She befriends a beat reporter Rudy (Edu Manzano) who shows genuine care for her and the child. The reporter somewhat plans a reunion with the convicted hustler, the bar girl and the child in prison. The hustler comes to his senses and belatedly realizes the importance of life. He takes his own life, but not without first donating his eyes to his blind daughter. After an eye operation, the child regains her eyesight and the bar girl and the reporter fall in love.
