Rob Leane May 24, 2017

Cartoon Network will host Warner Bros' DC Super Hero Girls animated series, which starts next year...

Warner Bros and DC Entertainment are set to bolster the female representation in their animated output, teaming with Cartoon Network for a show entitled DC Super Hero Girls. Despite the on-the-nose title - which it shares with a toy range, a series of online shorts and some straight-to-video movies - this sounds like it could be a lot of fun.

Animated Medusa Movie Coming From My Little Pony Creator

Disney has an apparent hit with the Maleficent. The tent pole that re-imagined Sleeping Beauty from the perspective of its villain has already amassed $93 million domestically, and in just 7 days. Now Sony is looking to re-imagine an iconic villainess of their own, but they are reaching far beyond fairy tales, all the way back to ancient myths. Indie Wire reports Sony Pictures Animation is developing Medusa, an animated adventure that will give a new perspective on the snake-headed beastie of Greek mythology. The studio bought the pitch for this from Jenny Marchick and Daniel Inkeles, but Sony got serious about Medusa's potential when they attached Lauren Faust to helm. Lauren Faust has a storied history in animation, working on cartoon shows like The Powerpuff Girls, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, and Super Best Friends. But she became a goddess among geeks when she rebooted the My Little Pony franchise with

For All Those Guys Who Love 'My Little Pony' ...
Secaucus, N.J. — Dale Fjordbotten is a proud "My Little Pony" fan, with the shiny blue body suit and yellow lightning bolt, blue wings and blue tail to prove it.

Like many "Bronies" – boys and men who like the cartoon "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic"_ the 25-year-old college student turned out over the weekend for "BronyCon Summer 2012" at the Meadowlands Exposition Center, which drew 4,000 men, women, boys and girls, many in colorful wigs and costumes.

"I thought about what people would say. `It's creepy. It's weird. It's a ... show for little girls,'" said Fjordbotten, from Staten Island, N.Y. "It's just a great show ... the story line, the plot, the beautiful animation."

Bronies say they're a misunderstood lot who've gotten a bad rap from the media. They're all about the show, friendship, love and tolerance, and they have no bad intentions, they say.

"I discovered that there's nothing

Morning Meme: Britney Spears Reaches Deal For "The X Factor," Cameron Monaghan Heads To The "Mall," and a Sneak Peek At "Saturday Night Glee-ver"

In a Hollywood explosion seldom seen, Joe Eszterhas, the screenwriter for The Maccabees, the Jewish historical film Mel Gibson is making, published a nine-page letter accusing Gibson of being anti-Semitic and just doing the film to fix his reputation. Mel Gibson published a response saying Eszterhas was unprofessional and delivering a late, substandard script (that Warner Bros rejected).

Emmy Nominations Reveal Few Surprises

It's a good day for funny people, especially if your name is Tina Fey or Seth MacFarlane.

Fey's series, 30 Rock, was handed 22 Emmy nominations this morning, which stands as a record for a comedy series. She and Alec Baldwin were also nominated for acting awards. Plus, for the first time some of the other actors on NBC's laffer were recognized. Jane Krakowski, Jack McBrayer and Tracy Morgan all picked up supporting nominations.

MacFarlane's Family Guy was also nominated for best comedy series, the first time an animated show has cracked that category since The Flintstones in 1961. Two years ago MacFarlane decided to pull his show from contention in the animated series category to have it considered for best comedy.

Mad Men, the drama about the advertising world in the sixties, picked up 16 nominations in the drama categories, including a best actor nod for Jon Hamm. Hamm is also nominated as

'South Park' Cruise Episode Picked by Emmy Voters

The controversial "Trapped In The Closet" episode of South Park, which poked fun at Tom Cruise, is the cheeky installment which earned creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone an Emmy Awards nomination on Thursday. The parody, which questioned Cruise's sexuality and mocked his Scientology beliefs, was caught up in controversy when it first aired last November, and reportedly helped lead to South Park regular Isaac Hayes, a fellow Scientologist, quitting the show. But rather than steer clear of the controversy, brave Emmy voters have embraced it, declaring it worthy of a nod for Outstanding Animated Program according to news website Tmz.com. The controversial episode hasn't been repeated since the initial furore and a planned re-airing in March was scrapped. South Park will compete with The Simpsons, Camp Lazio, Family Guy and Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends when the Emmys are announced next month.
