Spud breaks the HuntsClan encryption code and two trainees are captured. Jake and Spud replace them and go to the training facility to try to uncover another evil plot. What if Jake is caught? And who are the girls in Kara's vision who are fighting over Spud?
Rose worries that her and Jake are spending too much time together and the Huntsmaster is growing suspicious of her allegiance. Meanwhile Jake is going through this first ten-yearly dragon skin molting.
After successfully keeping a time traveling amulet out of the clutches of the Huntsclan, and getting grounded by his father in the process, Jake decided to use the amulet to go back to 1986 in order to reveal the existence of Dragons and other magical creatures to him. The trouble is, the shock of this revelation ends up breaking his parents up before he was even born, and now he has no other choice but to find a way to get them back together again.
With the help of a dream charm from Rose, Jake tries to enter the subconscious of Rotwood in order to pass his mysterious test. During this effort, he accidentally release a Chimera from Rotwood's dream into everybody else's, and has to summon Spud and Trixie to defeat it. In the process of doing so, Jake finds out about his friends and foes, Trixie find out something about herself, and Rose discovers something new about her past, that may further diminish her loyalty to the Huntsclan.
In gratitude for rescuing them from some trolls, two leprechauns offer Jake a part-time job as security duty at a pawn shop they own, and the greed goes to his head as well as the heads of his friends... that is until the shop makes a deal with the huntsclan that could doom the entire magical wold.
When Nigel, the new British exchange student, keeps showing up Jake at school, Jake decides to run for class president and uses an ancient magical glove to read the minds of the voters. But when Jake discovers that Nigel is a magical wizard, they put their difference aside and join forces to defeat the monster who has returned to claim the coveted glove. Grandpa and Fu Dog give the shop a makeover when a new electronics shop, "Boomgarden's," opens up across the street.
Desperate to get out of his family's lame Christmas rituals, Jake uses his dragon duties to try to find a baby sasquatch and return him to his tribe before they go on a rampage throughout New York City. The only people who make this job harder than it already is are Professor Rotwood, and two flunkies from the Huntsclan.
After Jake, Trixie, Spud, and Grandpa battle a magical creature, they discover their contact with the beast has left them drained of their youth. Jake is thrilled because he's now 21 years old and living it up, but Trixie and Spud end up in a retirement home. Jake realizes he'll grow up soon enough and must defeat the beast to restore their youth. An elderly Trixie and Spud try to adjust to life in a magical retirement home.
Jake is being auctioned off for a school bachelor fundraiser, but when he notices that the two contenders are a pretty girl, and a plain looking girl, to Trixie's dismay he manipulates the bidding so the pretty girl wins. But when Gramps fears that this pretty girl is actually a siren bent on his destruction, he and Trixie, Spud, and Fu try to convince Jake he made a bad choice. Trixie accidentally bids on Spud, and must spend a week with him as her "bachelor."
When Spud is bitten by a magical frog and begins to develop cool "froggy" powers, against Jakes advice, he decides to ham it up in front of all the other students and finally enjoy all the perks of being part magical like his best friend. That is, until Huntsclan #88 and #89 come magical frog huntin'.
Jake's loyalty to Fu Dog comes into question when he's assigned a new animal guardian-a totally cool hip-hop helper monkey named Bananas B. But when the evil Dragon Councilor Chang shows up and Bananas B changes sides, Jake realizes loyalty is hard to come by and apologizes to Fu for turning his back on his guardian. Spud feels betrayed after Trixie admits to burying an ugly sweater he gave her for her birthday.
When Rotwood sets Jake up for humiliation at school in an effort to put Jake off balance so he'll hopefully reveal his true dragon self, Jake starts venting on an online blog and unintentionally turns Rotwood into the magical world's public enemy #1. Once Jake discovers that there's a bounty on Rotwood's head, he realizes that he's said too much and has to convince the magical community to give up their quest and return things back to normal - even if Rotwood is still going to give Jake a hard time.
Jake, Spud, and Trixie are hoping for a little rest and relaxation and sign up to be camp counselors at Haley's summer camp. But when a legendary ghost story comes to life, Jake must put his vacation on hold and help all the junior campers face their fears to defeat the "ghosts" that are trying to steal their souls. Haley competes with a fellow camper for the coveted camp trophy.
When Jake discovers a magical "game controller" device that he can use for his own life, he starts altering certain recent events in order to change the outcomes in his favor. When Jake can't keep up with the affects of all of his changes, he realizes it's better not to take shortcuts and just play the cards that life has dealt. Fu Dog is miserable when his vet puts him on a diet.
Jake Long's family tours Hong Kong, actually for a special meeting of Dragons. Grandpa is abducted. In an effort to rescue him, Jake and his close friends use their extreme-sport skills but enter a trap.
