One of the films which were bundled together to make up the first Australian Underground moviess program, NIGHT WAIT stands apart from the rest and from the later efforts in that short lived phenomenon. Dalby, a Czech immigrant, had a background in local theatre and used his associates there to put together this two reeler in which the emphasis was on performance and the atmosphere was grim and realistic.
Filmed in sixteen millimeter in street locations at night, it still has a sincerity which gives it an edge on many more sophisticated productions.
It's director went on to make a now lost sixteen millimeter Biblical feature and documentaries for the Australian Commonwealth Film Unit.
