Storyline

Admiral Frank Beardsley returns to New London to run the Coast Guard Academy, his last stop before a probable promotion to head the Guard. A widower with eight children, he runs a loving but tight ship, with charts and salutes. The kids long for a permanent home. Helen North is a free spirit, a designer whose ten children live in loving chaos, with occasional group hugs. Helen and Frank, high school sweethearts, reconnect at a reunion, and it's love at first re-sighting. They marry on the spot. Then the problems start as two sets of kids, the free spirits and the disciplined preppies, must live together. The warring factions agree to work together to end the marriage. Wait for the T.V. release, reserve your comments, then show your kids the original.
11 December 2005 | by Bruce_ClanSee all my reviews

I think many parents may "miss the boat" here just as I might have.

Not wanting a bad seat in a crowded movie, I always ask "how many seats are left" when purchasing my tickets. I knew that something was wrong at this Saturday afternoon matinée, when the ticket agent told me "we have only sold 11 tickets".

Take your kids to see it if you want (or wait for it on TV), but do your kids a favor and reserve comment. The best thing about this movie is that it creates the opportunity to show them the original version made in 1968, staring Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda.

Cost of seeing this movie with your child.... about $25.00. Cost of sharing the original version with them........ Priceless!
