Quotes

Peter Benchley: I think the fascination with sharks comes from many things. One, they are the last surviving predator that poses a genuine threat to man in an environment in which he chooses to go. E. O. Wilson said we don't just fear our predators. We are transfixed by them, prone to weave stories and fables, because fascination breeds preparedness, and preparedness, survival. In a deeply tribal sense, he said, we love our monsters.

As entertaining as documentaries about movies can get.
16 April 2006 | by davenelson-2See all my reviews

Okay, so yeah, it's not out yet. I've been privileged to watch about 45 minutes of it, being a friend of the producers. I had actually never seen Jaws when I watched this footage. (my parents were very protective of me growing up...) TSISW made me want to see Jaws, so I did, and loved it! I guess that's as good an endorsement as you can give.

Even though I don't consider myself a Jaws fanatic, or even expect to see Jaws again for good while (I'll show it to my kids when they're older...), I'd recommend this documentary to anyone. It's super entertaining. I had no idea what a subconscious impact Jaws has had on the world. Now I see Jaws references in everything.

The segment about the soundtrack was my favorite. It truly is the most recognizable two notes ever played.

If you are a Stephen Spielberg fan, you must own this. You don't often get to hear him speak so intimately about his work, and especially not about Jaws. I know for a fact that the interview was quite long. I wonder if the DVD will have a lot more of it in the extra features...

Anyway, this is a fabulous documentary, and I look forward to seeing the whole thing...whenever it comes out. :)
