Best documentary about the romance of flying in years, that shows the passion and tells the history of the men and women involved in general aviation.
14 December 2005 | by wbogaardtSee all my reviews

This documentary was is a love story. The love story between people, their flying machines and the local airport, affectionately called Van Nuys. The aerial photography is some of the best seen by this reviewer in a while. The film has three stories. The first is the plight of airports and their destruction by politicians and people with little knowledge about the commerce and benefits that airports bring to a community. The other is the history of Van Nuys airport itself, and the people who put Van Nuys on the record books and into the annuls of Hollywood history. Finally, the story of how the love of aviation is so ingrained into the old and young pilots.

The orchestration is very well done and brings heart to the film. It keys well with each of the scenes. The transitions were well thought out and flow together, not just your standard fades and transitions you see in a regular documentary.

The DVD has extras aerial shots, and a few easter eggs which are being released over time. Since the film was done in digital everything is very clear, and it helps to have a high end system or have seen it in a digital theater. The only thing missing was a play all for the special feature clips.

This documentary wasn't made for only people who love aviation. It's truly a film that captures an innate human trait of a passion and a love of a dream.
