Storyline

This is a story of two legendary men, Karagoz and Hacivat, who lived and died by their sense of humor. Bursa, 1330. A an ancient, crowded Roman city at the border of Byzantium. Changed hands 4 years ago and the small Ottoman tribe is just being transformed as a local state, on the remains of the old Eastern Roman Empire. The story takes place in an unrecorded period time, the last 2 months in the lives of two legendary Turkish stand-up comedians, Karagoz & Hacivat? They lived and died during the first clashes of the decaying Eastern Roman Empire and the first Ottomans of the 14th century Anatolia. Their stories and characters are adapted for traditional shadow theatre of the later Ottoman Empire, in modern Turkey and all over the Middle-East, Greece, and western Asia. Their legend and the truth about their tragic deaths are twisted and distorted, although their stingy humor still lingers on. After the the leader of the growing tribe of Ottomans, Orhan Gazi, notices the talents of two ... Written by Anonymous

Summary of comics in Turkey History
27 February 2006 | by skislalSee all my reviews

Hacivat and Karagöz is a comedy team in Turkish culture. They are usually known as all Turkish people. They acted during the first years of Ottoman Empire.Despite having many fans they were also criticizing the system of state and governors. So they were punished and killed by government.

And the movie.Ezel Akay and Levent Kazak really created a good studio for this film in my opinion.Studio looks realistic and city life looks so dynamic.Although the film is not claiming to become a comedy ,many people were waiting to laugh. This looks impossible. At least for me.All the actors made a good job.Especially Haluk Bilginer performs his best.Costumes are also fine but movie's language may be a bit hard for young people.

In short Hacivat and Karagöz Neden Öldürüldü is not a must seen film. But it is worth every penny you give and especially second 1/2 of movie is better. You can go see this movie and learn why they died? Why people who criticizes system die?
