The Gypsy Diva
28 February 2016 | by bkoganbingSee all my reviews

Checkmate enters the world of grand opera tonight with Patrice Munsel and as an added treat we hear Munsel sing some arias. Definitely this show is recommended for those whose musical tastes run in that direction.

Somebody's trying to do in our diva and Checkmate is called in because it is no doubt one of her entourage. Munsel is of Romany origins and you can see that if she didn't have a voice of 5 and a half octaves she would be telling fortunes from some basement apartment somewhere.

But she's really into all the superstitions and they're being used against her. I would really expect that with her worldly experiences she just might have thrown off some of those notions. Makes the whole viewing experience kind of silly.

But you can't beat that soprano.
