Quotes

[Fred is elated when the horse he bet on came in at 7-1 odds]
Casey Jones: You really care, don't you?
Fred Dana: Well, I'm makin' money, honey. What's more important than money? That's what gets you to where you want to go.
Casey Jones: And where's that?
Fred Dana: To the top.
Casey Jones: The top of what?
Fred Dana: The heap. You know, I've been everything from a spieler in a carny to a short-order cook. Sure, but I'm on my way now!

The Winning Ticket
14 May 2011 | by sol1218See all my reviews

***SPOILERS*** Undercover NYPD policewoman Casey Jones, Beverley Garland, doesn't have to go undercover in this "Decoy" episode but only turn dirty. That's in Casey joining in with mobster Harry Bates, played by Harold Huber in his last movie or TV role, in a fake winning ticket racket ring at the Aqueduct or what it was called back then in 1958 Jamaica racetrack.

It's Jamacia racetrack ticket clerk Fred Dana, Peter Falk, who by stealing a couple of rolls of blank parimutuel tickets from right under track, by setting a fire at the ticket office, securities noses who's the big man in Bates' criminal operation. Bates is a little weary of Casey's motivations and has her lift the criminal records from a boxer that he manages, Sailor Jack Corbert, from police files to prove that she's straight with him. Casey for her part is now risking her life if Bates ever finds out she setting him up for the NYPD.

***MAJOR SPOILERS*** Dana who's treated like dirt by Bates soon comes to realized that he's in the wrong business in working for him. He's also captivated by Casey's courage under fire by risking her life to put Bates behind bars. Dana suddenly gets cold feet when Casey's exposed as a fraud to Bate by her claiming to know a big time gambler, who's to cash a number of counterfeit tickets for Bates, at the racetrack that blows her cover or honesty in being in league with him. In an attempt to escape the trap set for him Bates tries to make a run for it as he destroys the evidence, the fake winning tickets, but by then it's too late for him.

P.S At the conclusion of the episode Casey Jones give us a little insight into what "class" a world that Fred Dana used all the time really means or signifies. Which by what Dana did in turning his life around and saving Casey's life is exactly what he had.
