There's something in the pipes.

The TARDIS materialises on a foam covered beach, a thumping sound is heard coming from a Gas pipe. The Doctor, Jamie and Victoria are shot down by a distant marksman, they awaken at HQ of Euro Sea Gas. Run by Chief Robson, and his deputy Harris, Euro Sea Gas are in a state of emergency, a huge drop in pressure, and loss of contact from its rigs, only a strange muffled message stating 'everything's fine.' Harris asks wife Maggie to fetch some papers, as she reaches in to the drawer she is stung by a piece of seaweed. She then tosses it outside and it begins to bubble and pulse. Mr van Lutyens is on hand to offer expert advice, which Robson ignores. Victoria's locked in a room, left to her fate she spies tentacles and foam seeping through the vents.

It is no wonder that Fury from the Deep is so often regarded as one of the finest stories in the show's history, tragic it doesn't exist. Victor Pemberton did an incredible job, Part 1 is so rich, the scene is set wonderfully well, the characters are imaginative and interesting. They managed to create a true sense of claustrophobia.

The entire cast are brilliant. Victor Maddern is hugely charismatic as Robson, Roy Harris is well cast, Harris is a great contrast to Robson.

I think in the early years the trio of Pat's Doctor, Jamie and Victoria is possibly my favourite combination. I love Fury from the Deep and it kicks off in style. 10/10
