Today's Tom Sawyer

I would say this episode falls under the "had potential" mantra, especially after Mr. Roarke and the Angel of Death(Gary Collins)share evil looks after they meet for the first time. I was hoping for one of those good vs. evil battles, but the rest got pretty wimpy. The other faces include Jenilee Harrison, Stephen Shortridge, Roddy McDowell, Carol Lynley(again???), Adam Rich, Doug McClure, and Jason Wingreen. The lesser of the 2 stories has a woman, Mark Twain, slaves, Huck Finn, poker, and a riverboat. It's not that bad, it's not that good, so watch it if you want. The slightly better story has an Angel of Death basically wanting a woman's husband dead, so he can keep her to himself. I thought angels were supposed to be good? For fans of Collins' Sixth Sense, like I am, you'll probably dig his performance here too, as it also has a touch of premonition. My favorite scene of the entire episode occurs late at night in a rather darkened office, revolving a meeting between Roarke and Michael(Collins); there's something about night scenes in this show that I seem to enjoy. It's still not enough to recommend, but I thought I'd mention it anyway. Considering there are many decent actors here, you might expect a better result, and I was slightly underwhelmed.
