An attorney general uses Matt's friendship with an outlaw for political gain.
- THIS SYNOPSIS CONTAINS SPOILERS. John Farron, a friend of Matt Dillon now an outlaw, is desperately wanted by higher authorities. Willard F. Kerner, the ambitious attorney general, sends his unscrupulous deputy, Charles Shepherd, with a phony offer of amnesty, but Farron is too cagey to be caught. Shepherd forces Farron's accomplice to betray his friend, leading Farron into a deadly trap. Shepherd guns down Farron as Matt wounds the deputy AG. In the end Matt is unable to prevent Farron's needless death in the street.
