In the file room of a U.S. government base, an air force captain is forced to shoot and kill an airman who pulls a gun on him. The airman glows and disintegrates. Meanwhile, David Vincent is in Maine, trying to find a fisherman who is in possession of an alien disk. After his bizarre experience, Captain Mitchell Ross wants David to testify with him before a committee. But David knows that talk will do no good: he needs that alien disk. Later, the aliens abduct David and take him on a trip into their space ship. Incredibly, they want to convince him that they have only peaceful intentions. To prove it, they show him how they've revived and replenished a dying desert valley. But all is not what it seems. Written by J. Spurlin

When the aliens take David Vincent on a trip in the space craft, it uses the sound effects from Earth vs. the Flying Saucers (1956), and also emulates the trip Dr Russell and Carol Marvin took with the aliens of that movie, showing a view of Earth from outer space after only a few seconds of flight. Narrator: [Epilog Narration] A trip to a nightmare world. A committee disbanded. Another defeat, another hope lost for David Vincent - maybe. Or maybe it's a hope begun.

The Day the Invaders Stood the X-Files
28 May 2018 | by hrkeplerSee all my reviews

'The Innocent' is not only the best episode of season one, but it is the strongest chapter of whole series. Well written script with very atmospheric direction and another dedicated performance by Roy Thinnes supported by cool cast of character actors led by legendary Michael Rennie. This is also the first episode we see the insides of the aliens' spaceship. Eerie open ending leaves the viewer with somewhat unnerving feel.

This is a must see sci-fi storytelling for every fan of the genre.
