When did you join the wheelchair club?

***SPOILERS*** Special police consultant Robert T. Ironside, Raymond Burr, is put on the case of a car thief ring that's been stealing cars off the city streets at the rate of 100 a month. What's so unusual about all this is that the cars don't seem to be sold on the black market but seem to disappear completely out of sight! This has gotten so out of control that the head of the city car theft division Let. Muldoon, Jay C. Flippen, completely flipped out and attempted to commit suicide, leaving him in a wheelchair like chief Ironside, because he couldn't solve the baffling case!

Felling that the clue to all this car theft has to do with a car junkyard run by two of San Francisco's top flower children Alfred & Rosemary Dunne, Peter Helm & Pamala Dunlap, Ironside decide to get someone on the inside, as an undercover operative, in the junk yard to get the proof. Whom Ironside appoints for the dirty and dangerous job is his personal houseboy ex convict and former street gang leader Mark Sanger, Don Mitchell. Sanger does get to the bottom of all this but almost ends up in the bottom of San Francisco Bay in getting his job done!

***SPOILERS*** As Ironside and his assistant Mark Sanger discovered the two flower children Alfred & Rosmary Dunne weren't exactly anti capitalist as well as materialistic as they made themselves out to be. They were making big bucks , as much as one million a year, in having their goons steal mostly luxury cars and then not selling but renting them out to unsuspecting motorists. with the two exposed and now behind bars their dreams of becoming #3 after Hertz & Avis in the car rental business went straight down the drain together with their freedom.
