Storyline

RAdm. Chegwidden finds it necessary to convene a hearing about the accusation that Bud provided an inadequate defense during the previous episode (to avoid any favoritism, other impropriety, or an appearance of such). Sturgis prosecutes, and Harm defends. Sparks fly between Harm and Sturgis, and Mac reluctantly appears as a witness for the prosecution. Bud and Harriet cope. Harm discovers the reason for which Bud did not succeed in contacting a key witness who could have provided an alibi for the defendant. Sturgis tries (but fails) to set up the admiral with a lady, and the admiral stumbles (albeit clumsily) into one by himself. Written by DocRushing

Trivia

Towards the end of the episode Lt. Sims calls Lt. Singer ma'am. This is incorrect because they are the same rank. See more »

Goofs

Near the end, Lt. Sims addresses Lt. Singer as "Ma'am". This form of address is unwarranted, as they are of the same rank (O-3). It might be explained as a character mistake, as Harriet Sims had been junior to Lt. Singer on-screen until her promotion in "Lifeline" (S06 E22), though given the time since, this is a stretch. Quotes

[Bud was just cleared of the dereliction charge]
Lt. Bud Roberts, Jr.: You remember when you said you would "kick my ass". Well, good job. Would you care to join us, Lieutenant?
Lt. Loren Singer: [perturbed] How do you do that?
Lt. Harriet Sims: You'd need a *heart transplant* to understand that, ma'am.

No jag officer in his right mind would take the abuse from within his own unit and ask for fair trial by disinterested parties ... this episode is typical of office back stabbing for advancement and would readily be seen by outsiders ... i find the whole jag non line officer situation ridiculous anyway ... i've sat on numerous courts martial and believe that a panel of one's peers is preferable to a trial by judge unless a full jury is impaneled ... office politics have no place in the courtroom
