Storyline

A dishonest judge (Phillip Mackie, Jr.) is found in his car, dead from carbon monoxide poisoning. Though no marks of restraint were found, Kojak suspects murder and begins to investigate. A private investigator is seen at the funeral delivering a satchel (which contains incriminating tapes); a girlfriend of the deceased is also there. A crooked lawyer seeks to subvert the senior Mackie (also a judge) in order to allow a mob boss to be released on bail during his appeal and flee the country. To protect his son's reputation, Mackie agrees but reconsiders when he learns that his daughter-in-law conspired with Bronson to arrange the murder of his son. Kojak's faith in justice is confirmed. The Good name of the family
3 May 2016 | by bkoganbingSee all my reviews

John Randolph as a model Lewis Stone type judge and Dorothy Tristan as his daughter-in-law dominate this Kojak story. Tristan is a wife scorned and Randolph is numb from scandal that threatens to cloud the good name of his family.

Walter Stocker is the son and also a judge and he's found dead of asphyxiation in his car that is initially ruled a suicide. But Telly Savalas has his doubts.

Tristan is really a frightening person. No wonder that her husband was seeking a little TLC elsewhere. She has him bugged and the tapes she has are what ultimately leads to his murder, almost another, and a horrible miscarriage of justice.

Abe Vigoda has a small part as a mafia kingpin. And what I liked was George Savalas normally the butt of his brother's one liners gets to be a hero, arrest a couple of button men and save a life. Here's to you Stavros.

One of the best of Kojak episodes.
