Three outlaws lead by Al Denning force a wealthy rancher to give them a bank draft for $25,000 plus a letter allowing the bank to give them the money. Hoping for more, Al leaves him dead with a knife in the back. Local drunk Charlie Frost rides into the Sherman ranch telling Jess and Daisy that he found the rancher dead. Jess rides with Charlie to report the murder to Sheriff Cory. Meanwhile, the three outlaws are at the Laramie bank cashing the draft. Being short on paper money, the banker offers to give them most of the money in double eagle gold pieces which they accept but weighs about 100 pounds. When the bank hears that the rancher has been killed, the banker reports the incident to Sheriff Cory. Cory puts together a posse with Jess, rancher Joe Farley and his foreman Ed Casson along with farmer Sam Moore and Charlie Frost.
