Storyline

Through work, Mary meets Paul Arnell, to who she is attracted. She hopes that he will ask her out, which he eventually does. Mary readily accepts. The only problem is that Paul is the brother of Howard Arnell, who Mary once dated and who she broke up with because he was much too clingy. Howard ends up not being a topic of conversation between the two until they stop by Paul's parent's house. Mary had met them once when she and Howard dated. It becomes quite evident to Mary what Mr. and Mrs. Arnell think about her, Paul and Howard, both individually and collectively which makes her date with Paul a little awkward. Written by Huggo

Sibling Rivalry
31 January 2017 | by HitchcocSee all my reviews

Richard Schaal returns, playing the brother of the character he played in an earlier episode. His name is Paul Arnel and his brother is the boorish Howard. He is a political writer for a upward moving candidate. Howard is a maker of novelties and is the apple of his parents' eyes. They actually think that he and Mary are engaged and that there will be a wedding soon. There are uncomfortable moments in the senior Arnell's house because Howard has received all the attention and Paul's job is seen as less than important. This i Paul and Mary's first date and the parents are going to Europe, so their goodbye visit is not much fun. Mary is nearly referred to as a harlot. This is an OK episode.
