The building cleaning woman, Mrs. Cosgrove, assures them no one was let into the office. While Della takes charge of the baby, Paul Drake starts to trace the child's parents. The only lead he has is a note saying the baby's name is Leander and an old St. Christopher's medal that was left with the baby that has an old electric car engraved on the back. A car dealer tells them the car pictured on the medallion is a rarity with only 6 ever built by its designer, Leander Kerrick. The man is now dead but his widow, Dolly, is still alive. Mrs. Kerrick's cousin and business manager, Jarvis Baker, knows more than he's letting on but she refuses to believe the child might be her grandson. Perry, Della, and Paul are discussing what to do with the baby and examining items left behind including a note and a St. Christopher's medal. Paul says he can have the note checked for latent (finger) prints right after both he and Della had been handling it and right before he takes the medal and puts a big thumbprint on one side (as had Della). Perry Mason: Why the sigh? I thought the dinner was excellent.
Della Street: It isn't the dinner. I'm merely letting out my breath.
Perry Mason: Your breath?
Della Street: I've been holding it ever since we sat down. Do you realize that this is the first meal we've had in weeks that hasn't been interrupted by a frantic phone call from someone... the office or a worried client?

Perry and Della find a baby in the office.
25 December 2012 | by kfo9494See all my reviews

Perry and Della are returning to the office late one evening and upon opening the door find a baby on Perry's desk. All that is left with the baby is a note asking Perry to keep the baby safe. Other than that the only thing the baby possess is a St Christopher medal with an rare car on the back. Perry finds out that the car on the back of the medal is a electric car owned by the widow Derrick.

As Della is caring for the baby a series of odd events happen. We find out how the baby got to Perry's office, someone else is trying to kidnap the baby, a rich widow feels like she is being blackmailed and we find out that the supposed mother, Ginny Talbot, is accused of murder.

Perry will defend Ms Talbot in court for the murder plus trying to establish the fact she actually is the mother of the baby. Paul gives Perry some information that appears to only hurt his client but Perry finds the information interesting and is ready for cross examination of witnesses.

A very interesting mystery that is entertaining. With some good actors like Hugh Marlowe, Sara Taft and Corey Allen this episode is dramatic. A good watch for any Mason viewer.
