The dean of an all-girls school hires Gunn after a series of mysterious occurrences on campus, including a bell ringing after not being heard for 20 years and the electrical power suddenly going off and on. One of the co-eds has hot pants for Gunn, but also for one of the professors, who is a major suspect.Written by
For years I've yelled at the screen, but it does no good. Shapely girls keep walking alone in spooky woods at night, despite my shouted warnings. Still, it's a great hook to this Gunn entry. The story doesn't make much sense. Something about a girls school getting terrorized because a bell rings when it shouldn't. But in terms of photography, this has to be one of the series best. Now, I'm no expert, but I can't help being impressed at how well the story is photographed. Note how camera placement and movement keep the eye riveted, even when the story meanders. I also like the way the eerie masks are worked into the frame. Plus, the series' trademark of noirish lighting lends customary mood. Anyway, don't look for Jacoby or Edie, but do look for a wild-eyed professor and a battle of the noses in a two-person close-up. All in all, it's the visuals that salvage the poorly scripted episode.
