Quotes

Richard Diamond: Now most girls are a little touchy about answering questions asked by strangers. So I figured the best way to get Miss Thomas to open up was to fill the air with the sound of wedding bells and the sweet smell of orange blossoms.

What to do when your friend's a killer?
17 January 2016 | by MissClassicTVSee all my reviews

Richard Diamond's old war buddy Jack is wanted for killing someone and Diamond wants to talk him into surrendering to the police. Jack wants no part of that. He likes his life now and won't turn himself in. They're old friends, but clearly they've taken two different paths. Diamond is saddened by this but he would like to help bring Jack in alive. It's a good episode with a strong ending.

In the middle of this somewhat dark episode, there's a 5-minute long, wonderful scene where David Janssen gets to show his comedic talents. Richard Diamond pretends to be a simple country boy. It's funny and effective. Dropping the suave private eye persona, David Janssen speaks hesitantly, is fidgety, slack-jawed, wide-eyed, and shows an awe-shucks kind of attitude while pretending to be love-struck. It's a performance reminiscent of Jim Nabor's Gomer Pyle, except that this came before Gomer Pyle existed. Janssen shows a light touch and good range as an actor. I really enjoyed it.
