The notion that 'chloroplasm and plutonium' radioactive ash could fertilize the desert is gibberish. However, the peaceful use of nuclear and thermonuclear bombs was very popular in the mid 1950s. One year after this episode aired, the AEC authorized 'Operation Plowshare' to look into developing peaceful uses for atom bombs. After ten years of unproductive research (which released frightening amounts of radioactive fallout into the atmosphere) the project was cancelled. See more »
