A really dark story, very well played out.

Matthew Ward doesn't have the easiest childhood, a spiteful, unpleasant Mother and a work obsessed Father. Matthew comes into the possession of a sixteenth century book of his Father's and begins reading the spells, believing they hold the key to his unhappiness, his mother's affair, the dismissal of housekeeper Mrs Withers. When his father disappears he begins to fear the worst, even that he's conjured up the devil.

If you've watched The Omega Factor, you might just recognise child actor Max Harris (Matthew Ward) who appeared in the episode Child's Play.

Lynn Farleigh is absolutely brilliant as Matthew's self obsessed and unpleasant mother Virginia, you truly believe in how vindictive and nasty her character is, Paul Freeman also puts in a fine showing as her lover Oliver.

A real sting in the tale with this one, 8/10

All in all this has been the best episode of Scorpion Tales to date, quite original, with very enjoyable performances by all concerned. 8/10
