Storyline

There is no comedy segment; Johnny and Ed chat about various topics, including the monologue, Ed's shopping and holiday plans, Johnny's necktie and Ed's eyebrows. Richard Harris says that he has stopped drinking, and is using acupuncture to reduce his smoking from five packs a day. He recalls how his father used to play Santa Claus, and then discusses his album "The Prophet", an adaptation of Kahlil Gibran's fables. He tells an anecdote about Dylan Thomas, who he greatly admired, and also tells the story of first meeting his idol Bob Hope onstage at the 1967 Academy Awards. Bob Hope talks about meeting King George VI and Queen Elizabeth after a command performance in 1947, when Laurence Olivier alerted him with horror that his fly was open. He also discusses his book "The Last Christmas Show" about his tours entertaining the troops during the holidays. He recalls how he was subject to an air raid bombing attack in Algiers during the 1943 tour, taking shelter in his hotel's wine cellar... Written by lenab9011
