Apparently the Captain and Admiral are brain-addled.

The episode begins with the Seaview coming upon a cache of giant metallic capsules on the ocean floor. They retrieve one of them and find a humanoid inside (Robert Duvall)...and they can see that he's alive!! Eventually they are able to open the container and when they free the alien, the Admiral and Captain show that they are idiots. Instead of watching this being, they allow him to be unescorted throughout the ship--even once they realized he's tampered with the electrical system!! Later, he sabotages the ship again...and it threatens to kill everyone! And, this occurs AFTER he announces he's going to kill everyone on the planet! Just how dumb can the crew and commanders of the sub be?! And, can they manage to kill this weirdo?

The IDEA of this episode is quite good. But to make the officers THIS stupid was beyond me...and makes the writing very weak indeed. One of the weakest episodes of the season...which is sad because the idea had real promise.
