After a financially disastrous year, renowned Irish horse breeder and trainer Aidan Doherty is selling his stables to wealthy neighbor Charlie Carrick's leading estate Firebrand, to emigrate to Australia. Old right hand Dermot Cahill fails to talk him out of it but hides the contract. Then arrives Ray Hogan to sell him a magnificent but apparently unmanageable stallion colt. And Jonah Price, a gentile youngster everyone assumes to look for a stable boy job, but interested in Aiden for a personal, crucial reason.
