When Sam and Dean investigate the disappearance of a man who was looking into a tourist attraction known as "The Mystery Spot" -- where the laws of physics don't apply -- Sam is thrown into a repeating loop, living the same day over and over, and watching Dean die each time in a different way as Sam avoids the method that killed him the last time. The episode is supposed to take place in "Broward" county and there are potted palm trees on the street as Dean and Sam walk from the diner to the Mystery Spot. But it never gets cold enough in Broward County, Florida, to see one's breath, at least not during the daylight hours. See more »

Sam Winchester: You don't remember any of this?
Dean Winchester: Any of what?
Sam Winchester: This. Like it's - happened before?
Dean Winchester: You mean like deja vu?
Sam Winchester: No, like it's - like it's really happened before.
Dean Winchester: ...Yeah, like deja vu.

Dean Winchester: Okay, how is that not...
Sam Winchester: Don't say it!

This is the episode I show people to introduce them to the series
8 October 2019 | by CubsandCultureSee all my reviews

This is a well rounded episode that is highly representative of the series at its best. It uses an outlandish premise for a lot of laughs and even a few scares. It effortlessly connects the central plot of the season to a an ongoing character arch. It has some just the right amount of brotherly angst. Really this a truly special episode.

Apart from that the time loop concept puts a lot of pressure on the director and editor to keep the same basic scene feeling the same and yet different. Manners gets a lot out of the diner location. This is one of the best cinematic episodes. Just great.
