Sam and Dean follow the trail of an Anti-Claus when victims are apparently pulled up the chimney never to be seen again. After a lead goes nowhere, the Winchesters learn the Anti-Claus in in fact a pair of old pagan gods who have assimilated into society and have found a new way of getting their yearly sacrifices. A flashback to Christmas Eve 1991 reveals how Sam found out for the first time what their father really did and where Dean got his gold amulet. Written by Derfel85

Did You Know?

During the filming of this episode, Jared Padalecki, who had been having some personal issues, had a really bad panic attack. The doctor suggested that he may have been clinically depressed. While Jared seems to have overcome this or at least manage it well, it was still a factor for him when he ran his "Always Keep Fighting" campaign in early 2015, selling shirts with Sam Winchester's portrait and the slogan to benefit the charity 'To Write Love On Her Arms'. This is a charity that raises awareness and provides aid to people suffering from Depression and related illnesses. See more »

During the pagan ritual, Sam was cut on his right arm, but at the end of the episode the bandage is on his left arm. See more »

Dean Winchester: [re: Meadowsweet] Why would someone be using that as Christmas wreaths?
Sam Winchester: You know, it's not as crazy as it sounds, Dean. I mean, pretty much every Christmas tradition *is* Pagan.
Dean Winchester: Christmas is Jesus's birthday.
Sam Winchester: No, Jesus's birthday was probably in the fall. It was actually the winter solstice festival that was co-opted by the church and renamed Christmas. But I mean the yule log, the tree, even Santa's red suit is all remnants of Pagan worship.
Dean Winchester: How do you know that? What are you going to tell me ...

In regards to Paganism, I think that some of you who profess to be Pagans need to do some reading up on the religion you claim to be a part of. There is tons of literature of the subject of human sacrifice & Paganism: to appease the ancient gods of nature, etc. to insure good crops, good health, prosperity of the community & the like. I do agree that this episode was a bit over the top, but it is only a TV show & it was very fun to watch! I do not believe that Paganism is in any way related to Satanism; I myself have a deep belief in Earth religion. But it is in no way innocent, no religion is. Even Christianity has human sacrifice in its past. Anyone who's read the Bible knows that. Well, time to get off my soap box.

I will continue to watch Supernatural as long as its on because the cast is great, the stories are interesting & I think that the writers do a relatively decent job on the research end. Its a nice reprieve from all the reality shows & "real-life" dramas. Give me fantasy any day!!!
