Storyline

When a prostitute complains of rape, Alex has a tough time convincing Gene to take the case seriously. She is the lone voice in CID, and only the link to a recent murder victim makes Gene take the investigation further. The pursuit of the attacker takes them undercover to a fancy dress boat party, but has Alex's determination got the better of her, and is her effort to prove a point masking her judgement? Quotes

[Alex Drake claimed, untruthfully, that she used to work as a prostitute before joining the police force, just to see what Gene's reaction would be]
DI Alex Drake: I'm not a hooker. But if I was, d'you know something, Gene? You could never, ever afford me.
DCI Gene Hunt: You might talk with a plum in your gob, love, but I would rather go with one of those whores than waste my money on some bitter, twisted, messed-up, clenched-arse toffee-nosed bitch like you.
[Alex slaps Gene very hard across the face, sending him sprawling]
DCI Gene Hunt: ...

Now the series gets going

The first two episodes were solid, this third one really does hit the mark. It looks very much how crimes have changed, in particular attitudes towards sex workers, we see how alleged victim 'Claire Rushbrook' is treated as a victim by Drake, and how she is dismissed by Hunt. A very interesting story, as always the music is great, one of the best scenes, Alex picks up a handsome yuppie chap in Luigi's, they start fooling around to Bucks Fizz 'Making your mind up' after she asks to ping his braces, rather camp, but very funny. Brilliant episode with some really nice bits of humour throughout. Alex punching Hunt is great too. We see her in some wonderful 80s gear, off the shoulder tops etc. The fashions were so much fun. The term Bolly Knickers should have been adopted into everyday language
