Alex thinks she's close to death and has to keep her brain alive by solving the case: a raid at a Post Office. Gene believes the culprit is Chas Cale, a blagger he crossed swords with years ago. When Chas claims he's too ill and too old, Gene reflects on whether he too is over the hill. For once, Alex needs Gene to be strong for her. She fears she can't solve the case alone and is desperate not to die in 1981. Written by Mick Ford

Luigi: What are you doing drinking by your own? Where are your men? And why is the lovely signorina up in her flat, also by her own?
DCI Gene Hunt: The lads'll be here soon, as for the lovely signorina - well she can take a swan dive from the window as far as I'm concerned.
Luigi: Ah, I see. Who will catch her?
DCI Gene Hunt: No-one hopefully.

Story good, Imagery glorious
9 August 2015 | by Sleepin_DragonSee all my reviews

It starts off with a raid at a Post Office, a Deniro impression is remembered by shopkeeper Mr Chaterjee. Gene's hunch leads him to Chas Cale. You know you're going to be alright watching a TV show when you see Phil Davies, now's perhaps not the right time to go into just exactly how utterly superb he is, sadly he is dreadfully underused here, with only a minor role. We see Chris trying to make his move on Shaz, Ray's clear jealousy is very funny. Gene has a wonderful moment of frustration when Alex uses his beloved and stunning Audi Quattro, what a seriously gorgeous car that was, very iconic. Alex senses that she's close to dying, falling, getting cold etc, and childhood memories of her doing her rubix cube, get her thinking she should never give up, and by solving the case she will save herself. Young actor Asa Butterfield is excellent, easy to see why he's getting lots of work, great young actor. It features some wonderful imagery, Gene shooting the restaurant window, and Alex falling through her duvet.
