Vision of a Future Passed: The Prophecy of 2001 (2007)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

William Friedkin, Roger Ebert, Arthur C. Clarke, John Baxter, Dennis Muren, David Hughes, Paul Duncan, Dan O'Bannon, Douglas Trumbull and Sydney Pollack are among the people interviewed for this featurette that takes a look at Kubrick's 2001 and talks about what it got correct and not so correct about the future it was predicting.

This is an extremely fun piece because it really gives you a great reminder that Kubrick was pretty much making everything up on his own and he really didn't have a blueprint for space or whatever future technology comes along. The people interviewed are certainly very entertaining as they discuss things about the look of space, computers and even something like HAL taking over. If you're a fan of the film you'll enjoy hearing about the various theories brought up in the film and the question is asked why didn't we do more with the space program by the time 2001 came along.
