Creating the giants took four main steps. The first step was using performance capture, which was used to capture the actor's facial/body movements and render them in a real-time virtual environment. The second step took place during principal photography, where Simulcam technology was used to help the human characters virtually interact with the giants that were rendered earlier. The third step was a second performance capture shoot to adjust giants' movements to seamlessly fit the live-action performances. The final step involved putting the finishing touches on the giant's animation, skin, hair and clothing, and composition in the shots. See more »

If I hadn't run away, none of this would have happened. A princess is such a useless thing.
If you hadn't run away, Roderick would have taken over the kingdom with no warning. Your running away just might have give Cloister a fighting chance. So no one's useless, least of all the princess. That's why we need to get you back, because one day you'll be the queen. From then on you'll have the power to make the world a better place. Isabelle... imagine all the good things you could do.

As I left the theater after watching this movie I tried to put my finger on the reason why I felt so underwhelmed by what I had just watched. Perhaps it was the overly simplistic video game plot (save the princess), the lack of a well defined villain, or the lackluster development of any of the characters. In the end I couldn't precisely point to any single issue that derailed my ability to really enjoy this viewing. What this movie really lacked was the ability to engage the audience on any meaningful level whether it be emotional, mental or otherwise. In short, it's soulless. I don't know exactly what gives a movie its soul but I know when it's missing and this movie, unfortunately, was quite lacking.
