Storyline

With the ship out of FTL for twelve hours, Lt. Scott, Sgt. Spencer, Ian, Dr. Rush and others travel down to the planet to find the minerals necessary for the scrubbers to provide them with breathable air. They find a desert planet that should have what they need but they will have to locate a dried lake bed as it will be the likely source. Scott recalls some of his troubled past. As time winds down, some of the team decide to use the gate to transport themselves to a habitable planet, despite Ian's advice to the contrary. Chloe Armstrong communicates with her mother to tell her about what's happened to her father. Written by garykmcd

Eli jokes about thinking he saw the Statue of Liberty and expecting apes to appear. This is a reference to the film Planet of the Apes (1968). See more »

Goofs

When Chloe goes to see her mother using the communication stones (at around 40 mins), there is a shot with a piano, its ornate music stand is lying flat. In this particular shot it would have been a distraction had it been up. Moments later we see that piano (at around 20 mins) and the music stand has been mysteriously raised. See more »

A better series
10 October 2009 | by LunarshadeSee all my reviews

This early in all the characters are still discovering themselves as well as each other. I would have liked more action but this is an excellent start to the new series.

The whole tone of this series is similar to the start of Stargate Atlantis, in that first we all need to find ways to live, cool stuff comes later.

This episode left me with a much greater sense of character development and confirmed some expectations while cementing others as to what to expect from the future episodes.

The soundtrack is also very excellent, neither of the previous series have made much of their audio during the show. The rise to action, drama etc notwithstanding. The end left me wanting the next episode but without that feeling of incompleteness that the premier did.
