Watch Jennifer Hudson And Terrence Howard In Trailer For Tearjerker Movie ‘Lullaby’

When I came across this trailer it proved a point I was telling people a few years ago. I just had this feeling, but I predicted that if Jennifer Hudson wasn’t careful, she would be stuck in a rut, playing those “sassy, opinionated best black friend of white people” roles. The kind of role where her character doesn’t have a life outside of worrying about her white friends, and making sure she helps them solve their problems. She did that in the first Sex in the City movie, and now she’s doing it again as the sassy opinionated nurse in the upcoming indie drama, Lullaby, which comes out in June.True, she has played other roles, such as Winnie Mandela and the drug addicted mother in...

Selena Gomez Nominated For Worst Actress Razzie Award For ‘Getaway’

Selena’s turn as a gun-toting, car-almost-jacking thrill-seeker on the big screen has earned her a major nomination!

“I stood up and cheered!” raved absolutely no one who saw Selena Gomez and Ethan Hawke‘s 2013 film Getaway, so it’s no surprise the action-thriller is nominated for three Razzie Awards, presented to the year’s less-than-stellar cinematic works. But hey, a nomination’s a nomination — even if the category is “Worst Actress” — so we’d like to take this time to congratulate our girl Selena on her prestigious recognition.

Selena Gomez’s Razzie Nomination: Why We’re Proud Of Her

Films are designed to move us, one way or another, and Getaway did just that. Selena’s film stirred enough emotion within the hearts and minds of the Razzies’ nominating committee that it chose to bestow this nomination upon her, and for that, we salute her.

As is tradition, the

Jennifer Hudson Films Music Video In L.A., Talks Film & Music Career

Jennifer Hudson was caught on camera in between takes of shooting her latest music video in downtown Los Angeles on Monday. Hudson, rocking her new short hairdo, was captured walking around the set in a white robe and matching white slippers.

Hudson recently opened up about her film and music career in an interview for the January issue of Essence. Among the many topics, she discussed her challenging 2013 roles – taking on the biopic Winnie Mandela and playing a drug addict in The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Peat.

"I was so nervous about doing a good job that I started working on the accent a couple of months before I even got there,” Hudson said, referring to playing Winnie Mandela. "So much was done to suppress Winnie's voice, to keep her quiet,” Hudson added. “Winnie's story needed to be told."

As for her dramatic turn in the George Tillman Jr. film,

Nelson Mandela in the movies

In film, the role of the former Anc activist and president of South Africa has traditionally been approached with great reverence

The voice. The gentle, mysterious smile. The walk – generally an older man's walk, across a garden, or presidential office, or prison exercise yard. The enigmatically polite manner: intimidating, even awe-inspiring for allies and adversaries alike. The list of actors who have tried all this is long: Morgan Freeman, David Harewood, Terrence Howard, Danny Glover, Sidney Poitier, Clarke Peters, Dennis Haysbert, Idris Elba – and Lindane Nkosi, the one South African actor who has managed to make some sort of impression as this character in Anglo-Hollywood circles, for a film called Drum, about the 1950s anti-apartheid campaign, that played at festivals in London and Cannes.

Nelson Mandela has been a role to be approached reverently, a difficult part and a career hurdle in some ways, like a royal figure in a Shakespearian play,

Vondie Curtis-Hall Will Get Behind The Camera Again To Direct Paul Robeson biopic

An unexpected choice; but glad to see the man working. Vondie Curtis-Hall will replace South African director Darrell Roodt (Winnie) to helm Four Stars International's Paul Robeson biopic, which British actor David Harewood, was attached to star in. Sydney Tamiia Poitier (daughter of Sidney Poitier) was also attached to the project, to play Paul Robeson’s wife, Eslanda ("Essie") Goode Robeson. I say both actor were attached because, according to a new Variety report, the producers have opted to read other actors for the the lead role specifically - meaning, Harewood may actually no longer be involved. The project will be...
