Art of Self Defense Trailer: Jesse Eisenberg Stars in Karate Comedy

Joseph Baxter May 22, 2019

Jesse Eisenberg stars in The Art of Self Defense, playing a timid man who takes a dark path while toughening himself up with karate lessons.

The Art of Self Defense, an indie comedy film that screened at SXSW this past March, heads to a wide release, tapping into a thematic and topical corner that’s been successfully covered on the small screen with YouTube Premium’s Cobra Kai, showcasing a situation in which the martial art of karate leads bullied people down a destructive primrose path.

The film stars Jesse Eisenberg, who plays a run-of-the-mill milquetoast, who – after finally being sick of getting shoved around and remaining afraid – decides to sign up for a karate class, run by an eccentric sensei (Alessando Nivola), whose hardline philosophy resides squarely in the toxic masculinity discussion. Indeed, the initially-quixotic karate quest of Eisenberg's Casey appears destined for a dark turn.

First Ghostbusters 3 Promo Poster Tells Us We Know Who To Call

If Hollywood has taught us anything, it’s that just because a film franchise has been rebooted, there’s no law expressly stating that one can’t return to its original timeline. Halloween has already done so with great success, and I’m sure more than a few people are wishing that Hellboy can do the same.

Another fine example of this is that of Ghostbusters. After another cast and crew gave it a go a few years back, their effort ultimately failed to resonate with the majority of moviegoers. Understandably, the studio has opted to return to the original vision, but it remains to be seen if lightning can be captured in a bottle for a third time.

In an attempt to whet our appetites well in advance of summer 2020, Sony Pictures have released two new posters pertaining to the series. Though both can be viewed in the gallery below,

The Menu, a comedic horror film from SidewaysAlexander Payne, is looking to cast Emma Stone and Ralph Fiennes.

Here’s a movie pitch that, in the very least, is intriguing: A comedic horror thriller, starring Emma Stone and Ralph Fiennes, set on an island getaway for foodies on which ominously mysterious culinary delights are served. Well, such a project, titled The Menu, appears to be in the industry pipeline.

Indeed, it is being reported by Collider that Emma Stone and Ralph Fiennes are being eyed to star in The Menu. The genre project from eccentric visionary Alexander Payne resides at Gary Sanchez Productions, brandishing a script by the duo of Will Tracy (Succession) and Seth Reiss (Late Night With Seth Meyers), with the company represented by producers in founders Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, along with Betsy Koch.

Woody Harrelson is “really impressed” with Zombieland: Double Tap and so is Jesse Eisenberg

Woody Harrelson has revealed that he is “really impressed” with Zombieland: Double Tap and his co-star Jesse Eisenberg has also revealed how well shooting is going.

When a sequel arrives so long after the original, such as in the case of Zombieland and it’s follow-up, Zombieland: Doupletap, one could start to doubt whether the new film will be able to recapture what was so special in the first place.

Fortunately, this doesn’t seem to be the case with this particular franchise, at least not according to two of its returning stars. Woody Harrelson, in a recent interview with EW, expressed how amazed he is by the film so far:

“What we’ve shot so far, I’m really impressed with. Getting to hang out with these guys — Emma, and Abbie, and Jesse, and Ruben — I feel so lucky, really, really lucky. You know, it’s literally laughing all day long,

Zombieland 2 Shoot Has Woody Harrelson Laughing All Day Long
&#8232&#8232It's been a long tome coming, but Zombieland Double Tap is finally happening. For real. Zombieland was released 10 years ago. Can you believe it? Seems like just yesterday when we were introduced to the intriguing, and quite funny characters that inhabited the first filmscape.

The movie was very, very well received. It even got 90% on the Tomato meter, and that's no easy feat! A lot has happened in the real world since Zombieland was released last decade, however Zombies will never change. This is why even though it's been a long time, I think people will be excited to see yet another movie featuring the ever present pop culture monsters that we all seem to love so much.

This time around we once again get to see the loveable cast of Zombieland in a "sequel" called Zombieland: Double Tap. One of the stars of the movie, Woody Harrelson was making

Woody Harrelson Says He’s Really Impressed With Zombieland: Double Tap

Zombieland: Double Tap will be arriving in cinemas more than a decade after the first movie, and after such a long period of absence from our screens, you have to wonder if the horror-comedy series can still maintain its spark of energy and inspiration. But for what it’s worth, actor Woody Harrelson sure sounds like he’s having a fun time revisiting the post-apocalyptic world of the 2009 film.

Harrelson recently attended SXSW, where his new Netflix drama The Highwaymen had its premiere. While there, he spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the upcoming sequel and the many laughs he’s had on set.

“What we’ve shot so far, I’m really impressed with,” Harrelson said. “Getting to hang out with these guys — Emma, and Abbie, and Jesse, and Ruben — I feel so lucky, really, really lucky. You know, it’s literally laughing all day long, and that’s your job.

Jesse Eisenberg Gives Us An Update On Zombieland: Double Tap

After much demand from the fans and a few false starts, Zombieland: Double Tap is now in production and from what we understand, it’s coming together rather nicely. Granted, we haven’t really seen much from it in the way of official stills or footage just yet, but we we do have a few details on the story of Ruben Fleischer’s next film.

According to recent reports, the pic will find the old gang living in the White House before they set out on a journey that’ll introduce a few new zombie types to the franchise which have managed to evolve over the years. Along the way, they’ll also encounter a “female zombie-hunting badass named Nevada,” played by Rosario Dawson, while Jesse Eisenberg’s Columbus will find himself with a new love interest named Madison, played by Zoey Deutch.

Speaking of Eisenberg, the actor recently sat

Jesse Eisenberg Offers Zombieland 2 Production Update at SXSW [Exclusive]

Jesse Eisenberg Offers Zombieland 2 Production Update at SXSW [Exclusive]
After years and years of waiting, Zombieland 2, titled Zombieland: Double Tap, is finally in the works. While the studio, for the time being, is keeping a pretty tight lid on things, I recently had the chance to chat with Jesse Eisenberg, who returns as Columbus in the upcoming sequel. Eisenberg was kind enough to provide us with a little bit, in broad terms, of what we can expect from the movie when it arrives later this year.

Jesse Eisenberg was at SXSW in Austin, Texas to promote his new movie The Art of Self Defense, along with the rest of the cast and director Riley Stearns. We'll have the full interview coming down the pipeline at a later date. During the conversation I was able to ask him about Zombieland: Double Tap and, again, while he couldn't reveal too much, in terms of specifics, the actor did promise that they're

Maleficent 2 Title, Release Date and Poster Revealed

Disney have finally pulled the veil off Maleficent 2 this morning. We now have the official title, the release date, and the first teaser poster. Angelina Jolie is back in all of her wicked goodness, showing the horn headed dark angel as she gets ready for another fantastical adventure.

The Maleficent sequel is officially titled Mistress of Evil, hinting that Angelina Jolie's iconic Disney villain is not getting up to any good in this follow-up to the hugely successful 2014 live-action take on the villain prominently featured in the 1959 animated classic Sleeping Beauty. We don't get an official synopsis this time around.

The original movie showed off Maleficent's origin. As a beautiful young woman of pure heart, Maleficent (Angelina Jolie) had an idyllic life in a forest kingdom. When an invading army threatened the land, Maleficent rose up to become its fiercest protector. However, a terrible betrayal hardened her heart and

Venom 2 Loses Original Director Ruben Fleischer?

Venom 2 is happening but it's probably going to be a new director in the driver's seat this time around. In a highly expected move, it was revealed in January that Sony is indeed moving forward with a sequel to last year's highly successful Marvel Comics adaptation, with original writer Kelly Marcel returning to pen the screenplay. However, it's now being reported that Ruben Fleischer, who helmed the original, will not be returning.

Since this report isn't coming from the studio or anyone involved with the production, it should be regarded as a rumor for the time being. That said, this lines up with previous reports and makes sense, given the alleged production timeline. According to a new report, Venom 2 is gearing up to start production in November. That means, whoever is directing it, will have to spend at least a few months ahead of time prepping and doing pre-production work before cameras roll,

New Hollywood Podcast: ‘Now Apocalypse’ Star Avan Jogia Talks Oscars And The Brilliance Of Spike Lee
Avan Jogia has an interesting name — a name many have said he should change when he first started in the business over a decade ago. With his mix of Indian and Irish heritage, Jogia refused to stray from his culture and decided against a stage name. Now, his name is becoming recognizable and distinct in a class of young Hollywood. He has appeared in numerous TV shows early in his career but his name will soon be even more well known with the forthcoming Starz Greg Araki series Now Apocalypse, his role in the Shaft revival as well as Zombieland: Double Tap, a sequel to the 2009 horror comedy. Jogia stopped by the New Hollywood Podcast to talk about his upcoming projects and being of mixed race in Hollywood. But before we went into that, we dove deep into the results of this year’s Oscars.

Zombieland: Double Tap Just Added Another Major Star

Zombieland: Double Tap makes another noteworthy addition to what was already looking like an impressive cast, with Variety reporting that Luke Wilson has joined the line-up for the upcoming sequel to 2009’s Zombieland.

The star of Idiocracy and The Royal Tenenbaums will feature in an unnamed role opposite returning players Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin, as well as fellow series newcomers Rosario Dawson, Thomas Middleditch and Zoey Deutch.

With Double Tap currently in production, the casting announcements have been coming thick and fast, and while we haven’t been hearing quite so much on the plot front, recent reports indicate that the sequel will see the cast of the first movie living in the White House, before embarking on an adventure that will introduce some new types of zombies that have managed to evolve over the years. Along the way, the gang will apparently cross paths
