Storyline

Julien Monnier has a serious problem. Though he's a brilliant couples counselor, he can't keep a woman in his life for more than two weeks. Indeed, ever since his childhood, Julien jinxes every woman who falls in love with him. But it's not just any small jinx. It's the kind that sends you to the hospital several times a week, that destroys your professional life or that turns your friends into enemies. Julien is strictly speaking a true black cat for women. Joanna Sorini will soon learn this at her expense the day she meets him. A career that's just taking off, a love life that finally seems to be taking a good turn, all that may just change. Written by Happy_Evil_Dude

Trivia

Screenwriters Luc Bossi and Laurent Turner enjoyed working together so much they quickly re-teamed for the thriller The Prey (2011). Their method involves discussing the story together, then having Turner write a draft, after which Bossi goes over it, correcting it, adding new scenes, removing others, and handing it back to Turner so that he goes over it and so on until the two are satisfied and send the script to the producer and director. Funny and inspiring - a revelation after most of American offerings
9 August 2014 | by linakochanskSee all my reviews

A funny comedy - it started to feel like it is too much to ask in the past decade when every comedy (especially romantic comedy) is less funny than the previous one. I refer to American cinema, naturally. British comedy muddles along somehow - although it's hard to name a funny film released in the last few years - perhaps they have become too too forgettable. It sometimes feels like the only solution is to resort to 1930 - 1950s golden age films or the undiscovered gems of 1980s. Fear not, fellow comedy lovers, we still have French cinema. French comedy has always had a tendency to be fresh, expressive, charmingly physical and frothy - and luckily it seems like it hasn't lost that charming something that makes it so good.

This film is fresh, hysterically funny at times, quirky, ironic, wistful, inspiring and very entertaining - everything that a comedy should be. "Un plan parfait" has perhaps engrossed me more - but it is a lovely film on a par with "Heartbreaker" (2010) and "Love is in the air" (2013) . "Second chance" is a perfect rainy day film - it may not be easy to get dubbed or subtitled versions - but the effort is worth it.
