The Big Lebowski Spin-Off The Jesus Rolls Is Coming to Theaters in 2020

The Big Lebowski spin-off is finally coming our way next year. It's been announced that Screen Media has picked up the rights to The Jesus Rolls, which was formerly known as Going Places. John Turturro, who played the role of Jesus Quintana in the Coen brothers cult classic, is set to reprise the part. Turturro also serves as writer and director. Turturro had this to say in a statement.

"It feels like a good time to release a transgressive film about the stupidity of men who try and fail and try better to understand and penetrate the mystery of women. I look forward to working with Screen Media and bring our work and the character of the Jesus to American audiences."

We first heard of this spin-off back in 2016. Production took place and, for a couple of years, the project just kind of sat with no word on when we

Eva Mendes Reflects on the Film That United Her and Ryan Gosling, and We're Happy Crying

Eva Mendes Reflects on the Film That United Her and Ryan Gosling, and We're Happy Crying
Eva Mendes wins #FlashbackFriday. On June 28, the actress took a trip down memory lane by posting footage of her starring alongside her beau Ryan Gosling in 2012's The Place Beyond the Pines. In the film, Gosling plays motorcycle stuntman Luke Glanton who reunites with ex-lover Romina Gutierrez (Mendes) and finds out they share a son named Jason. The clip posted by Mendes shows the family spending time together before posing for a picture. "Flashing back to one of my favorite scenes from A Place Beyond the Pines," Mendes captioned the video, followed by a heart emoji.

Working on the project together eventually led to Mendes and Gosling's real-life romance, which was confirmed in 2011. They now share two daughters, 4-year-old Esmeralda and 3-year-old Amada. Falling in love and starting a family definitely wasn't on Mendes's radar when she and Gosling first got together. "It was the furthest thing from my mind.

‘True Detective’ Hair & Makeup Designers Take On Three Timelines And “Hyper-Realistic” Aging In Season 3

‘True Detective’ Hair & Makeup Designers Take On Three Timelines And “Hyper-Realistic” Aging In Season 3
For John Blake, Brian Badie and Mike Marino, three newcomers to the world of True Detective, the anthology series’ third season was a huge undertaking, in terms of demands that were placed on the makeup and hair departments.

Starring Mahershala Ali, Stephen Dorff and Carmen Ejogo, the latest installment of the HBO crime drama cut back and forth between the 1980s, 1990s and 2015, unraveling the crime that changed the lives of two Arkansas detectives.

Overseeing the ‘80s and ‘90s time periods were Badie and Blake, heads of the hair and makeup departments, who took a large ensemble of characters through a variety of period-appropriate looks, working to keep the series’ timelines straight in their heads while shooting out of order, with only a few scripts provided in advance of the shoot.

Then, there was Marino, True Detective’s newest prosthetic makeup designer, who brought the show’s leads into their twilight years with stunning realism.

Margot Robbie Says Harley Quinn Will Be ‘Less Male Gaze-y’ in ‘Birds of Prey,’ Film Still Aiming For R Rating

Margot Robbie Says Harley Quinn Will Be ‘Less Male Gaze-y’ in ‘Birds of Prey,’ Film Still Aiming For R Rating
Margot Robbie will follow up her big 2019 with an even bigger 2020 thanks to the release of “Birds of Prey.” The Warner Bros. tentpole finds the Oscar nominee reprising her “Suicide Squad” role of Harley Quinn opposite Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, and Ewan McGregor as Black Mask. The superhero film is powered by women, with Robbie serving as producer and “Dead Pigs” helmer Cathy Yan in the director’s chair, and that’s one reason Harley Quinn won’t be presented only as an object of desire.

“That’s what happens when you have a female producer, director, writer,” costume designer Erin Benach recently told Vogue about making some slight alterations to Harley Quinn’s “Suicide Squad” look in order to better empower the character.

“Yeah, it’s definitely less male gaze–y,” Robbie added.

Benach went straight into work on “Birds of Prey” following “A Star Is Born.

Mahershala Ali takes the lead in prison drama ‘Solitary’

Mahershala Ali is set to star in and serve as executive producer in the adaptation of Albert Woodfox memoir ‘Solitary’.

Based on the 2019 book, it tells the unforgettable life story of a man who served more than four decades in solitary confinement – in a 6-foot by 9-foot cell, 23 hours a day, in notorious Angola prison in Louisiana – all for a crime he did not commit. That Albert Woodfox survived was, in itself, a feat of extraordinary endurance against the violence and deprivation he faced daily. That he was able to emerge whole from his odyssey within America’s prison and judicial systems is a triumph of the human spirit.

Arrested often as a teenager in New Orleans, Woodfox was finally given a fifty-year sentence for the murder of a white guard during a robbery in 1972 – a crime that he never committed. Without a shred of actual evidence against him, the

Mahershala Ali Eyes Role in ‘Solitary’ Prison Movie
Two-time Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali is executive producing and plans to star in prison drama “Solitary” for Fox Searchlight.

The specialty label has bought the movie rights to Albert Woodfox’s 2019 memoir about the 43 years he spent in solitary confinement in Louisiana’s Angola Prison. The book’s full title is “Solitary: Unbroken by Four Decades In Solitary Confinement, My Story of Transformation and Hope.” The project is in the early stages of development without a director or screenwriter attached.

Woodfox and Herman Wallace were indicted in 1972 for the killing of a prison corrections officer and convicted in 1974. Activists began working in the 1990s on appeals and Woodfox’s conviction was overturned in 2014. He was released in 2016 after the prosecution agreed to drop its push for a retrial and accept his plea of no contest to lesser charges of burglary and manslaughter.

During their time in Angola, Woodfox and

Fox Searchlight Acquiring ‘Solitary’; Mahershala Ali Eyes Playing Albert Woodfox, Who Spent 43 Years In Solitary Confinement

  • Deadline
Exclusive: Fox Searchlight is making a deal to acquire Solitary, a memoir that Albert Woodfox wrote about the 43 years he spent in solitary confinement in Louisiana’s Angola Prison.

That is the longest stretch in the U.S. for a kind of incarceration that has roundly been denounced as being inhumane. It amounted to 23 hours in a 6-by-9 foot cell, with an hour a day in a fenced concrete “exercise yard,” but always alone. He drew that sentence following the 1972 murder of a prison guard that he has steadfastly denied committing. The book’s subtitle attests to the spine of the story: Unbroken by Four Decades In Solitary Confinement, My Story of Transformation and Hope.

Mahershala Ali is attaching to be executive producer of the film, with the intention to play Woodfox, whom he met in New Orleans recently after reading the book. The film will be produced by Jamie Patricof

'A Star Is Born' Producer on Film's Original Ending and the Evolution of "Shallow"

Lynette Howell Taylor first worked with Bradley Cooper on Derek Cianfrance's The Place Beyond the Pines six years ago. Little did the veteran producer know she'd later help to bring the star's directorial debut to the screen.

When Cooper called her about his contemporary telling of A Star Is Born, which has pulled in more than $418 million worldwide, the head of 51 Entertainment had yet to see any of the earlier iterations. But she immediately went home and watched the Judy Garland (1954) and Barbra Streisand (1976) versions — back-to-back.

Having recently inked a two-picture worldwide rights deal ...

Erin Benach (‘A Star Is Born’ costume designer) on the intimidating task of dressing style icon Lady Gaga [Exclusive Video Interview]
A Star Is Born” costume designer Erin Benach‘s focus was on creating “a character arc” for Ally (Lady Gaga), a down-on-her-luck waitress who becomes a singing sensation after she’s discovered by fading rock star Jackson Maine (Bradley Cooper). Watch our exclusive video interview with Benach above.

Before she started work the veteran designer had to decide “where I wanted her to start, where I saw her at the pinnacle … and where I wanted her to end.” With that in mind, “I kept pinpointing” those ideas “in the storyline,” making sure to “hit them as far as her clothing went.”

Lords of Chaos Poster Turns Rory Culkin Into a Norwegian Black Metal Maniac

Lords of Chaos Poster Turns Rory Culkin Into a Norwegian Black Metal Maniac
I love a good poster about as much as I love a good death metal tune. And so it pleases me that today we can pass along the poster for director Jonas Akerlund's Lords of Chaos starring Rory Culkin, Emory Cohen, Sky Ferreira, Jack Kilmer, and Valter Skarsgard. For those of you that might not be aware of the film or its killer backstory, Lords of Chaos is based on the 1998 non-fiction book of the same name by Michael Moynihan and Didrik Soderlind, which follows a series of crimes that occurred in Oslo, Norway in the early 1990s surrounding the black metal bands Mayhem and Burzum.

The film premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival and has been snagging up awesome reviews and killer word-of-mouth ever since. In fact, the movie currently holds a 91% fresh rating over on Rotten Tomatoes. The site doesn't currently have a Critics Consensus but the score
