"Child's Play" ("Jeux D'Enfants") is a film from Henri Fescourt. While I am pretty sure it played very well in 1913, today it seems very quaint and old fashioned.
The story begins with a rich family and a very bratty little girl. She surely will get her comeuppance--a common theme back in the old days. But before this, she mistreats an orphan boy. Later, the little brat and some friends are playing where they shouldn't have been and in a completely impossible to believe scene, the girl is locked in an elevator shaft with one of the slowest elevators in human history. It SLOWLY is coming down to crush her and no one seems to be able to get her out--but the same little boy comes to the rescue. While the story is unbelievable, it is made a bit more difficult to watch because of how heavy-handedly the story is handled.
