Storyline

Ted, who came across the costume in a costume rental shop and discovered its rental records, finally tracks down the potential woman of his dreams that he met at a Halloween party 10 years ago. He coined that woman the Slutty Pumpkin because of the costume. She is Naomi, and once Ted tracks her down, he finds that she is as beautiful as he remembers and she is as eager to hook up with him as he is with her. But after a decade of anticipation, Ted finds that something isn't quite right with their relationship. He's willing to endure some problems after a whole decade of waiting, but one can only endure so much. How will Naomi feel if and when Ted tells her things aren't working? Meanwhile, Marshall and Lily dread receiving yet another "used" gift from her grandparents (previous gifts included a lawnmower) that they can't use in their city life. But this time, Lily's grandparents offer them their house in the suburbs, as they are moving to Florida. Lily is excited to think of raising ... Written by Huggo

Trivia

The song "One Week" by the Barenaked Ladies is featured in this episode and Katie Holmes' character dances to it jokingly, but in a sexual manner. The same song and similar gimmick is used at the end of American Pie, where Alyson Hannigan had a supporting role. See more »

Goofs

Robin refers to Canadian coins having the nicknames "Looney" and "Tooney", prompting Barney to sneer that the country's currency sounds like a reference to Hanna Barbera cartoons. In fact, it's Warner Brothers which makes Looney Toons cartoons. See more »

Quotes

Marshall Eriksen: Lily you just gave those children a stapler, a pair of sharp scissors and a pretty decent Pinot Noir.

Neil Patrick Harris Does It Again
5 February 2015 | by slightlymad22See all my reviews

Once again I'm starting my review of this episode with the same sentence. Neil Patrick Harris knocks it out if the park once again as Barney Stinson as "How I Met Your Mother" continues to stay back on track. In fact it's one of the best of the season.

Plot In A Paragraph: Ted finally meets his mystery girl in the Slutty Pumpkin costume from season one. Meanwhile, Barney learns he is part Canadian, which delights Robin no end and she mocks him mercifully for it, and Lily wants to move to the suburbs.

Any episode that features the brilliant Neil Patrick Harris's character Barney Stinson in the main storyline is always excellent. His arrival at the rooftop party in stars-and-stripes boxing shorts and top hat with James Brown's "Living in America," a la Apollo Creed in "Rocky IV." Is TV gold. I could go on and on about the brilliance of this episode, and in particular Neil Patrick Harris but I won't bore you with it.

This is a really fun episode, Jason Segel and Alyson Hannigan are both excellent, and am I alone in finding it arousing when Lilly said "You can put it wherever you like"?? and Kal Penn does not return. Katy Holmes is great as "The Slutty Pumpkin"
